Women's Cross Country Finishes Third

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Penn State Behrend women's cross country team finished in third place out of 12 teams at the 2011 Roberts Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday.

Sophmore Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) paced the Lions again with a fourth place finish.  Bertges, coming off a win at the Behrend Invite, clocked in with a time of 19:16.  Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren) finished in 14th place with a time of 20:07.  

Freshman Zofia Stark (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) finished with a time of 20:24 to place in the top 20.  Behrend got strong performances by Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) and Katie Patterson (Erie, PA/Villa Maria).  Hughes finished in 23rd place with a time of 20:34 while Patterson was close behind in 26th place coming in at 20:42.

The Lions have finished in the top five in every meet this year.  A total of 133 women ran the 5K race with Behrend having five runners in the top 26.  Roberts Wesleyan took home the team title by having the top three individual runners.

Behrend will travel to the DeSales Invitational on October 8th for their next meet.
