Women's Cross Country Finishes 2nd at AMCC Championships

GRAND ISLAND, NY - Sophomore Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) came in second place while the Lions placed five runners in the top 10 to finish second at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships on Saturday. 

Behrend finished seven points behind Franciscan as the two schools dominated the race to take the top 11 spots.  The Barons won the AMCC title for the fourth consecutive season.

Bertges led the Lions with a time of 24:14 to improve on last year's seventh place finish.  She clocked in 43 seconds behind Nicole Krajewski who won the race for the second straight year.

Freshman Carrie Chelich (Hobart, IN/Hobart) ran a strong race to finish in fourth place.  She came in at 25:29. Katie Patterson (Erie, PA/Villa Maria) and Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) also contributed impressive times.  Patterson finished with a time of 26:02 to place seventh while Hughes came in just behind at 26:19.  Freshman Zofia Stark (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) rounded out the top five for Behrend with a time of 26:51 to finish in 10th place.

Overall, 87 runners ran the 6K race with the top five Lions earning All-Conference accolades.

Behrend will be back in action for the NCAA Regionals in Center Valley, PA on November 12th. Start time is 11 a.m.
