Lions Compete at NCAA Mideast Regional

NEWVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's cross country team competed at the NCAA Mideast Regional on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions placed 11th out of 49 teams for the second best finish in school history.

Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy), the 2012 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year, led Behrend with a time of 23:37.2.  Her time was good enough for 36th place to rank in the top-10 in program history.

Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) was the second Lions' runner to finish.  Hughes came in at 24:35.2 for 67th place.  Victoria Harwood (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) was close behind in 69th place at 24:36.4. 

Danielle Stanko (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown), the AMCC Co-Newcomer of the Year, placed 99th at 24:59.7.  Rounding out the top-five Behrend runners was Katie Patterson (Erie, PA/Villa Maria).  Patterson finished with a time of 25:12.8 for 110th place.

A total of 346 runners competed in the 6K race.
