Lions Win Second Straight AMCC Championship in Dominating Fashion

BUFFALO, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's cross country team claimed their second straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship on Saturday, and they did it in style.

Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) won the individual championship and the Lions placed each of the top-four runners with five in the top-10. Behrend accumulated just sixteen points – the lowest team total for a championship meet in conference history. Behrend finished an AMCC record 49 points ahead of second-place Franciscan.

Bertges ended with a time of 22:34. Saturday marked the third time this season she finished first overall.

Right behind her was Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren) who came in at 23:38.

Danielle Stanko (Sagertown, PA/Sagertown) finished 3rd with a time of 24:02, and Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) came in 4th at 24:18.

Coming in sixth overall was Katie Manno (Erie, PA/McDowell) who finished with a time of 24:42.

Miranda Boatman (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) finished 19th overall with a time of 26:11, Abby Gilmore (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) came in 35th at 27:42, and Becca Foster (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) finished 61st with a time of 31:14.

In all, eight Behrend runners finished in the top-35.

It was the fifth conference championship for the Lions in program history, and the first time Behrend has won back-to-back titles.

The Lions will now gear up for the NCAA Regional in Bethlehem, Pa. on November 16.
