Lions Win Second Straight AMCC Championship in Dominating Fashion
The Penn State Behrend women’s cross country team claimed their second straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship on Saturday, and they did it in style.
BUFFALO, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's cross country team claimed their second straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship on Saturday, and they did it in style.
Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) won the individual championship and the Lions placed each of the top-four runners with five in the top-10. Behrend accumulated just sixteen points – the lowest team total for a championship meet in conference history. Behrend finished an AMCC record 49 points ahead of second-place Franciscan.
Bertges ended with a time of 22:34. Saturday marked the third time this season she finished first overall.
Right behind her was Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren) who came in at 23:38.
Danielle Stanko (Sagertown, PA/Sagertown) finished 3rd with a time of 24:02, and Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) came in 4th at 24:18.
Coming in sixth overall was Katie Manno (Erie, PA/McDowell) who finished with a time of 24:42.
Miranda Boatman (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) finished 19th overall with a time of 26:11, Abby Gilmore (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) came in 35th at 27:42, and Becca Foster (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) finished 61st with a time of 31:14.
In all, eight Behrend runners finished in the top-35.
It was the fifth conference championship for the Lions in program history, and the first time Behrend has won back-to-back titles.
The Lions will now gear up for the NCAA Regional in Bethlehem, Pa. on November 16.
