Carr Leads Lions to Their Third Straight AMCC Title

ANGOLA, NY – Freshman Savanna Carr (Franklin, PA/Franklin Area) was crowned the individual champion to lead the Penn State Behrend women's cross country team to a first-place finish at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship Saturday at Evangolia State Park.

The Lions recorded their first-ever perfect score to win their sixth AMCC title in the past seven years, including three consecutive. Behrend had the top five runners and eight women overall qualify for the All-Conference team. Franciscan finished second (54) D'Youville finished third (93).

Carr has led Behrend in all three races she ran this season, and the championship would be no different. Carr bolted off the starting line to get ahead of the pack. Once she took the lead, she never looked back to win medalist honors. A 6:16 mile pace led her to finish the 6k in 23:23, good enough for the second-best time in AMCC Championship history.

Riley Crissman (Bradford, PA/Bradford Area), who led the Lions in last year's championship race, was not far behind the leader. She finished at a total time of 23:47 with a 6:23 mile pace. Courtney Sargent (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) crossed the finish line next Behrend, taking third-place overall with a time of 24:22.

Becca Worley (Townville, PA/Maplewood) and Jenna Shelton (Cabot, PA/Knoch) ran at the exact same pace. Both runners finished at 24:27 with a 6:33 mile time, rounding out the Lions' top runners earning fourth and fifth place overall, respectively.

Rachel Pell (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward), Kelley Giles (North Huntington, PA/Norwin), and Caitlin Plazony (Fairview, PA/Fairview) took home 10th, 11th and 14th place finishes respectively. The top 15 runners from this championship race are named to the All-Conference team.

Alex Haverly (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) ran a personal-best time of 27:56 earning her a 21st overall finish, shattering her previous time by two minutes.

The Lions have the next two weeks off before they compete at the NCAA Regionals in Carlisle, PA on Nov 11.
