LANCASTER, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team scored a 12-4 victory in its season debut at Lancaster Bible Monday afternoon. It was originally scheduled to be a doubleheader against the Chargers, but due to darkness game two was shortened and therefore was ruled to be not an official contest.

 Penn State Behrend 12, Lancaster 4 Records: Penn State Behrend (1-0), Lancaster (1-1) Key Moments: * To start the game, Dylan Barnes (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) and Chase Palmer (Brookville, PA/Brookeville) both got on base with a walk and double which led to an RBI groundout from Daniel Boehme (Peters Township, PA/Seton LaSalle) for the first run of the game and the season for the Lions * Behrend tacked on two more runs in the top of the second thanks to Thomas Nicely's (Delmont, PA/Franklin Regional) first collegiate home run * The Lions extended their lead to 7-3 after five with a solo home run off the bat of Boehme and a three-run homer from Palmer * A five-run sixth inning put the Lions up 12-3 as Barnes drove in his first collegiate run with a double and Mac Ciocco (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) hit a two-run single. David Gibson (North East, PA/North East) capped off the six-run frame with his first two career runs batted in * On the mound, senior Jeff Zick (Moon, PA/Our Lady of Sacred Heart) tallied the win, throwing two innings and striking out two in his opening day start * Freshman Andrew Bredel (Clinton, PA/Burgettstown) and junior Joe Lang (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) each threw two innings in relief with Lang striking out four batters, while Jake Manendo (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) saw his first collegiate action with a scoreless bottom of the seventh to close out game one and give the Lions their first victory of the season
