Men’s Basketball Welcomes Fredonia To The Junker Center

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's basketball takes on Fredonia on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Behrend News & Notes:

* The Lions are coming off a season-opening victory against Thiel, 81-62, last Wednesday
* Matthew McDonough (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 8-12 from the field and 4-7 from beyond the arc
* Tommy DiRienzo (Pittsburgh, PA/Bethel Park) recorded the first Lions double-double of the season
* DiRienzo tallied 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while shooting 7-13 from the field. He also added three assists, three steals, and a block to help lead Behrend to its first victory of the season
* Sophomore Michael Sopko (New Castle, PA/Neshannock) was Behrend's final player to score in double-figures, delivering a career-high 12 points along with five rebounds
* On the glass, RJ Marsh (State College, PA/Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy) collected 10 rebounds to go along with his nine points
* Freshman Shawn Mason (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) scored his first collegiate basket with a three-pointer in the first half
* As a team, the Lions shot 31-55 from the field (56.4%) and 9-26 (34.6%) from three. Behrend outrebounded Thiel, 34-30, and registered eight steals on 10 Tomcat turnovers

Meet the Opposition:

* Fredonia has begun the season 1-1, defeating Allegheny (112-97) on opening night and falling to Grove City (61-57) this past Friday
* In their first two games, the Blue Devils are led by Malik Jemison's 19.0 points per game and 4.5 assists per game, while Isaiah Youngquist has a team-high 4.0 rebounds per game
* The Blue Devils return seven players this season (four seniors), while adding 13 new players, 11 of which have previous college experience
* Fredonia lost its two leading scorers from a season ago, AJ Knight (17.0 ppg) and Aaron Collins (14.5 ppg). Knight was also tied for a team-high in rebounds per game (4.8)
* Last season, the Blue Devils had an overall record of 2-23 and a 2-16 record in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play
* Head coach Sean Smiley enters his third season as head of the program

* Behrend leads the all-time series 36-22, dating back to the 1964-65 season
