The Behrend men's soccer team continued their title defense as they took on Penn State Altoona in a match up of the second and fourth place teams. The blue and white entered the day at 6-1 in conference play looking to be in the running for the number one seed in the conference tournament.
It took nearly 100 minutes of soccer to decide the outcome of
this match up. The Behrend Lions took control in the first
overtime to come out with a 1-0 victory. Freshman
Aaron Meehl (North East/North East) found
himself inside the box with less than two minutes left in the first
overtime. Meehl finished the ball from an Jordan Hoffay
(McKees Rocks/Montour) service that was flicked on by Ahmad Salim
(Cranberry/Seneca Valley). Meehl put a shot to the left of the
keeper and found the back of the net. This was Meehl's first
collegiate goal. Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski Area) was solid
in the net for the Behrend Lions earning his eighth shutout of the
year.
With the victory, Behrend moved to 11-6 overall and 7-1 in the
conference, while Penn State Altoona fell to 4-8-4 and 4-3-1 in the
AMCC.
The blue and white will finish up the regular season on Tuesday,
October 28, when the Medaille Mavericks travel to Erie for another
key AMCC match-up. Seeding will determine when the Behrend Lions
will play next. A win against Medaille will put them in a
position to host the conference tournament.
