Women Announce 2011 Track & Field Team Awards

ERIE, Pa. – After an impressive third place finish at the 2011 Mason Dixon Conference Championships (MDC) and a strong showing at this year's ECAC Tournament, the Penn State Behrend women's track & field squad announced their team awards.

Katie Monoskey earned the Most Valuable Player award. Only a sophomore, Monoskey is one of the most decorated Lions to date. She was recently named the MDC Female Outdoor Field Athlete of the year after scoring more points than any other competitor at the championships.

Tanisha Wheatley has been an excellent leader for her fellow teammates and displayed such actions through her work ethic on and off the field. For that reason, Wheatley was given the squad's Leadership and Scholarship award.

Most Improved honors went to Victoria Harwood. On the pole vault, Harwood improved her mark by a remarkable 18 inches from a year ago. She was also a member of the record setting 4x400m relay team along with Co-Rookie of the Year Katie Spade. Spade got the nod along with Catie Bertges who placed third in the 5000m and fourth in the 1500m race at the 2011 conference championships. Spade scored 10.5 individual points and finished as runner up in the 800m.
