Women's Volleyball Falls at Union Tournament

SCHENECTADY, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team dropped their final two matches at the Union Tournament on Saturday, falling to Skidmore 3-0 and then to the hosts, 3-1.

The Lions (12-11) fell in the first match to Skidmore (25-18, 25-22 and 25-18, before suffering a close four-set match to Union (25-15, 28-26, 22-25, 26-24).

In the first match, Skidmore registered two thirds of their points on kills to sweep Behrend. Ashley Solo (Irwin, PA/Penn-Trafford) led with seven kills and Paige Scurpa (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) had a team-best 11 digs. Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski) and Lindsey Bean (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) added six kills apiece.

The Lions fought Union to a pair of sets that came down to the final two points. Frye paced Behrend with 12 kills, while Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) was one of three players in double-digit digs with a game-high 21. Solo tallied 13 digs and Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) produced a double-double with 12 digs and 28 assists.

In addition to Hopson's 21 digs, she also had a career-high six aces in the match.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday against Hilbert. Game time is 7 p.m.
