Behrend Baseball Announces 2020 Schedule

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team officially released its schedule today for the upcoming 2020 season.

"We are looking forward to stepping up to the challenges and demands of our spring schedule," said Behrend head coach Paul Benim, who is set to begin his 25th season. The schedule will begin with eleven games on the road in Kentucky and Florida before opening the first of 14 home games in late March.

The Lions will open the spring slate at Spalding University on February 28 and March 1 in Louisville, Kentucky. Behrend will play a three-game set versus the Eagles, who registered a 31-12 mark during the 2019 season. The following weekend, the Behrend Lions will make the annual trip to Fort Pierce, Florida for Spring Training. Behrend will play eight games and three additional JV games. "It is a very exciting week filled with many firsts," said Benim. "The entire roster will see opportunities to compete between the lines and that serve us well in conference play up north."

The home schedule features eight dates of action. The Behrend Lions will play conference opponents Alfred, D'Youville, Franciscan, Medaille, and Mount Aloysius. Behrend will also regional opponents in games that include Allegheny, Fredonia and Waynesburg.

The road will feature Behrend facing five league opponents in doubleheader action as well as road trips to Allegheny, Fredonia, Houghton, and Mt. Union.

"Our coaching staff is excited about the mix of experienced returning players, and we are also fired up about the potential of the incoming freshmen," said Benim.  "We will work exceptional hard together and strive to get a little bit better every day. The annual goal is to put ourselves in position to play our best baseball of the year in May and to compete for another league title."

The first round of the AMCC Championship will be on May 2, followed by the second-round double elimination tournament hosted by the regular-season champion May 7-9.

The program has complied more than 600 wins under the direction of Benim including six 30-plus win seasons since 2008. Last year, the Lions posted a 24-17 mark and will strive to play in a 14th AMCC final.
