Behrend Men's Soccer 2019 Team Awards

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team announced their team awards for the 2019 season as voted on by members of the team.

Senior defender Andrew Mastovich (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) was named the Most Valuable Player of the squad, while senior goalkeeper Matt Warnaka (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) earned Most Improved. Freshman Justin LeDonne (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) was selected Rookie of the Year and Nick Schwarzel (South Park, PA/South Park) was given the Leadership/Scholarship Award.

Mastovich was voted Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Defensive Player of the Year, while earning First-Team All-Region and ECAC All-Star honors. He anchored the defense in 21 games, only allowing 18 goals and holding opponents without a goal in 10 games.

Warnaka had a turnaround season, starting in more games than his first three seasons combined. He earned his first All-AMCC honors on the first team for posting an 18-1 record in goal. Warnaka led the league with a 0.71 goals-against average while making 40 saves.

LeDonne was tied for first among the freshmen for most games started with 12. The newcomer played in 18 games in the back and aided in the 10 shutouts posted by the defense. The Lions held conference opponents to five goals in 10 AMCC contests.

Schwarzel, a three-year starter and captain, was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American for the first time in his career this season. He also earned AMCC second-team accolades. Schwarzel scored eight goals and tallied one assist, starting in every game. He converted 5-for-7 penalty kicks and netted three game-winning goals.
