Men's Swimming and Diving Falls to Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge), Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Ethan Halmi (Erie, PA/McDowell) each won two events for the Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team, but the Lions fell to Westminster 171-103 on Saturday afternoon.

Kost dominated the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM with first-place finishes. In the breaststroke, he touched first in 2:21.99 and then posted a winning time of 2:02.78 in the 200 IM for the Lions in their first dual meet of the season.

Patterson won the 200 backstroke (1:58.54) and then recorded the top time in the 500 freestyle (5:02.92), while placing second in the 200 freestyle (1:50.15).

Halmi had the best one-meter and three-meter dive scores (86.00, 76.50) on the men's side and Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) tallied third-place finishes in the 100 freestyle (51.91) and the 200 freestyle (1:54.53).

In the 100 backstroke, Nikos Koufos (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) led Behrend with a time of 59.66. Blair Carson (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) followed Koufos with a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.37).

Jeremy Brosius (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) and Keith Powell (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) paced Behrend in the 100 butterfly and the 200 butterfly, respectively. Brosius recorded a time of 59.03 and Powell clocked in at 2:10.35.

The Lions return to action on Saturday for their home opener against Chatham, beginning at 1 p.m.
