Patterson Breaks Pool Record at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio – Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) won the 200 freestyle and set a new pool record in the 100 backstroke to lead Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday.

The Lions managed to edge the Yellow Jackets 126-100 in non-conference action. Patterson won two of the seven events for Behrend. He touched first in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.04 and then broke the Baldwin Wallace pool record in 54.13 in the 100 backstroke.

Less than a second separated first through fifth place in the 50 free, led by Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep). The freshman placed third in 23.55.

Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) placed first for the Lions. Kost had a winning time of 2:03. 52 in the 200 IM and Roth posted a time of 50.91 in the 100 freestyle to claim first place.

The final relay (200 free) belonged to Behrend thanks to Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois), Dillon Scheidemantle (Mars, PA/Pine-Richland), Fischer and Roth. The foursome recorded a time of 1:32.68 for first out of four relay teams.

Ethan Halmi (Erie, PA/McDowell) won both one-meter diving events, registering a score of 1.32.65 and then 190.85.

Siggins helped Behrend get points in the 200 freestyle, finishing second in 1:54.36 and taking second in the 500 freestyle (5:13.74).

Blair Carson (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) and Keith Powell (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) led the Lions in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly, respectively. Carson had a second-place time of 1:03.24 followed by Ryan Elsey (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) in third (1:06.24). Powell swam 58.46 in the 100 butterfly, also for second place.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Penn State Altoona. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
