Lions Down Penn State Altoona

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team won nine events to defeat Penn State Altoona 137-63 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon in the Junker Center.

The Lions went 1-2-3 in three events to pick up the dual-meet victory. Blair Carson (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) was a triple winner on the day with two individual and one relay victory.

Carson started the meet with Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin), Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) and Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) in the winning 200 medley relay in 1:43.25. He then led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 breaststroke. Carson touched in 1:03.41 to win followed by Ryan Elsey (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) in second (1:07.21) and Nathan Burak (Hopewell, PA/Hopewell) in third (1:07.86).

Carson also won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:22.39 and Elsey came in second in 2:29.81.

Patterson, Roth, Keith Powell (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) and Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep) each posted two victories. In addition to the relay, Patterson was first in the 200 backstroke (2:02.24). In the same event, Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) was runner up (2:09.39) and Nikos Koufos (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) was third (2:13.43).

Powell won both butterfly events for Behrend. He tallied a winning time of 57.55 in the 100 and 2:09.28 in the 200. For Fischer, he was dominating in the freestyle. The freshman had winning times of 23.39 in the 50 and 52.09 in the 100.

Roth, Siggins and Brady Mattson (Wilmington, DE/Delaware Military Academy) were the top three finishers in the 200 freestyle. Roth touched first in 1:53.22 and Siggins was close behind in 1:53.37 and Mattson was third (1:59.45).

In the 100 backstroke, Koufos led the Lions with a second-place finish with a time of 59.35.

Behrend returns to action on Friday, December 1 at the three-day Fredonia Stat Blue Devil Invitational. Meet begins at 4 p.m.
