Kost Wins Twice at Blue Devil Invite

FREDONIA, NY – Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) was a two-time winner to lead Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team on the opening night of the Blue Devil Invite hosted by Fredonia State on Friday.

Kost won the 200 IM and also swam on the winning 800 free relay to help the Lions sit in second place with a team score of 123. Allegheny is in first place with a 135 total and the Blue Devils are a close third with 118.

Kost shaved nearly five seconds from his preliminary time of 2:01.83 in the 200 IM to then post a winning time of 1:56.50. Kost finished the night with the relay along with Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin), Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) and Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois). The foursome combined for a winning time of 7:06.87 in the 800 free relay.

In the 1650 free, Brady Mattson (Wilmington, DE/Delaware Military Academy) had the top time for Behrend for fourth place overall (17:30.75).

The Lions had three swimmers in the finals of the 50 free. Roth led the way with a time of 22.51 for sixth place in the "A" finals. Dillon Scheidemantle (Mars, PA/Pine-Richland) and Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep) placed 15th and 16th, respectively. Scheidemantle recorded a time of 22.99 and Fischer clocked in at 23.09.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow for the second day of the Blue Devil Invite. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals starting at 5 p.m.
