Lions Cruise Past Washington & Jefferson

ERIE, Pa. – Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) won two individual events to lead the Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team past Washington & Jefferson 156-119 in non-conference action on Saturday.

Patterson won the 100 and 200 backstroke, while Kost led in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Patterson tallied a winning time of 54.89 in the 100 and then posted a time of 2:00.47 in the 200. Kost touched in 1:03.08 in the 100 breaststroke and then 2:19.39 in the 200.

Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) had a pair of wins, one individual and one relay. He won the 200 freestyle in 1:50.72 and then joined Patterson, Blair Carson (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) and Nathan Wagner (Ypsilanti, MI/Lincoln) to take first place in the 200 medley relay (1:41.66).

Keith Powell (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) and Roth were close in the 200 butterfly. Powell won in 2:08.81 and Roth was a close second in 1:09.01.

Brady Mattson (Wilmington, DE/Delaware Military Academy), Austin Willey (Erie, PA/Iroquois) and Ethan Halmi (Erie, PA/McDowell) also tallied a first-place finish for Behrend.

In the 1000 freestyle, Mattson was first in 10:48.86. Willey was victorious in the 100 butterfly (57.32) and Halmi took first in the one-meter diving with a score of 198.95. He also came in second on the three-meter board (182.85).

Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) was instrumental in earning points for the Lions, taking second in the 500 free (5:14.79) and third in the 200 free (1:57.33) and 50 free (23.38).

Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep) was the top swimmer in the 50 and 100 free for Behrend. He was second in the 50 (23.27) and in the 100 (57.86).

In addition to the medley relay, Carson was able to place third individually in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.54) and the 200 breaststroke (2:26.39).

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Malone in Canton, Ohio. Meet begins at 4 p.m.
