Men's Swimming and Diving Edges Malone

CANTON, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team won seven events and held on to defeat Malone 122-98 in non-conference action on Saturday held at the CT Branin Natatorium.

The Lions won the two relays and got two wins from Ethan Halmi (Erie, PA/McDowell) in diving. In the opening 400 medley relay, Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin), Blair Carson (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro), Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) and Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) were victorious with a time of 3:44.50. Behrend also took second in that same relay.

Halmi posted a personal-best score of 221.55 on the one-meter diving board and then posted a total of 207.83 on the three-meter board for a pair of wins.

Roth, Carson and Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) also won individual events for the LIons. Roth touched first in the 100 butterfly (54.42) and Kost had the top time in the 400 IM (4:27.05). Carson led a 1-2 finish in the 100 breaststroke. He had a winning time of 1:03.46 and Ryan Elsey (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) was a close second (1:04.40).

In the 1000 freestyle, Patterson was the top Behrend swimmer with a time of 10:28.66 for second place.

Siggins and Kost were the top performers in the 100 freestyle. Siggins placed second (50.13) and Kost was third in 52.12.

The Lions got second place in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Mike Geary was second in the 200 free (1:54.78) and Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep) took third (1:55.16). Brady Mattson (Wilmington, DE/Delaware Military Academy) led in the 500 with a second-place time of 5:13.72.

In the 50 free, Dillon Scheidemantle (Mars, PA/Pine-Richland) touched in 23.72 for third and first overall on the team.

Fischer, Siggins, Patterson and Roth placed first in the final 200 free relay event. The foursome clocked in at 1:29.92.

Behrend returns to action on Friday against Pitt-Bradford. Meet begins at 6 p.m.
