Patterson Wins Three Events to Lead Lions Past Pitt-Bradford

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team placed first in nine of 13 events en route to a 121-83 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win on Friday evening in the Junker Pool.

The Lions picked up their fifth straight dual-meet win to go undefeated at home this season. Behrend had five swimmers account for the team's individual victories. Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) was a triple winner and diver Ethan Halmi (Erie, PA/McDowell) tallied a pair of first-place finishes.

Halmi began the meet with a 215 total on the one-meter diving board for first, before Behrend won the 400 medley relay. Patterson, Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and Austin Willey (Erie, PA/Iroquois) tallied a time of 3:44.76 for the win.

The Lions finished 1-2 in two events, including the 200 freestyle led by Patterson. His time of 1:51.08 was good enough to beat a close second place by Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois), who clocked in at 1:51.78.

Roth and Kost kept up the winning ways with first place in the 50 free and 200 IM, respectively. Roth had the fastest time in the 50 free (22.53), while Justin Spence (Houston, TX/Cy-Fair) came in third (24.02).

Kost stood alone in the 200 IM with a top time of 2:00.88.

Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep) was also a double winner on the day. He led a 1-2 finish in the 100 freestyle (50.27), edging out Siggins (50.39). He then won the 500 free in 5:17.81.

In addition to touching first in the 200 free, Patterson also won the 100 backstroke in 54.49.

Keith Powell (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) and Willey had the top times for Behrend in the 100 butterfly. Powell came in second (57.77) and Willey was next in third place with a time of 59.20.

The Lions return to action tomorrow at St. Vincent. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
