Patterson Breaks Another Pool Record

LATROBE, Pa. – Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) set a pool record in the 200 backstroke (1:59.49) to lead the Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving against St. Vincent in non-conference action on Saturday.

The Lions fell to the Bearcats, 178.5-98.5.

Patterson won the 200 backstroke in record time (27.93, 30.98, 30.70, 29.88) and also took second in the 200 free (1:49.63) and was third in the 200 medley relay along with Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep), Austin Willey (Erie, PA/Iroquois) and Blair Carson (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) with a time of 1:42.83.

Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and diver Ethan Halmi (Erie, PA/McDowell) were individual winners on the day. Kost posted a time of 1:01.59 to win the 100 breaststroke and then placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.53), before taking third in the 500 freestyle (5:16.09).

Halmi competed in the diving events, registering a score of 134.20 on the one-meter and 169.90 on the three-meter board to place first.

In the 100 freestyle, Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) tied for second with a matching time of 50.61. Also placing second was Nikos Koufos (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) but in the 100 backstroke. He tallied a time of 1:00.77 while Jeremy Brosius (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) claimed third (1:02.38).

Siggins, Fischer, Patterson and Dillon Scheidemantle (Mars, PA/Pine-Richland) made up the second-place 200 free relay that touched in 1:32.45.

Willey and Fischer led Behrend in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle, respectively. Willey was third in the butterfly (59.26) and Fischer took third in 23.00.

In the 200 butterfly, Keith Powell (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) had the best time for the Lions, clocking in at 2:09.57 for third place.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday, February 8 at the AMCC Championships, hosted by the Lions.
