GAMBIER, Ohio. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team is in second place with 322 points after five events on day one of the Oberlin Invitational on Thursday.
Key Moments:
* Behrend sits in second place behind Alfred State (338.5 points)
* Tim Compton (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) and Jake Schmidt (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle to start the finals
* Compton was three seconds faster than the prelims with a time of 4:42.20 and Schmidt followed in second in 4:43.72
* Schmidt, Jacob Eshelman (Franklin, PA/Franklin), Justin Heller (Franklin, PA/Rocky Grove) and Dan Tanaskovic (Pittsburgh, PA/Central Valley) were 0.97 seconds off first place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:25.97)
* Eshelman paced the Lions in the 200 IM, finishing second in 1:59.00 for second overall
* Behrend had two swimmers in the top eight for the 50 free
* Heller was fourth in 21.96 and Tanaskovic took seventh in 22.19
* The Lions finished the night with a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay
* Matt Karenbauer (Butler, PA/Knoch), Compton, Schmidt and Jake Niziol (Eighty-Four, PA/Ringgold) touched in 3:30.88 for third
