Behrend Men's Volleyball Travels to Geneva for Season Opener

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team is set to begin a shortened 2021 season on the road against Geneva on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

Behrend News & Notes:

* The Behrend Lions return to competition for the first time since March 7, 2020
* Behrend has 12 regular-season matches scheduled along with AMCC playoffs set in April 
* The Lions finished the abbreviated 2020 season with a 11-6 record and 4-1 conference mark
* The 4-1 AMCC record was good enough for second place in the standings
* Tomorrow's contest is a non-conference match between Behrend and Geneva
* The second meeting on March 27 will be considered an AMCC contest
* Senior outside hitter JP Goodsel (Corry, PA/Corry) returns after being named Second Team All-AMCC last season
* Goodsel finished eighth in the conference in kills per set (2.50) and ninth in points per set (3.0)
* Lone junior Cody Schnur (Butler, PA/Butler) was also named Second Team All-Conference
* Schnur, a middle hitter, led the AMCC in attack percentage (.360) and was ninth in blocks per set (.67)
* Outside hitter Colin Dedert (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) is the other senior on the squad in addition to Goodsel
* The Lions roster also features four sophomores and six freshmen
* Head Coach Phil Pisano begins his 10th year with the Lions and has a 115 career wins with the men

Geneva News & Notes:

* The Golden Tornadoes are 2-5 overall this season
* Geneva defeated Alderson Broaddus 3-1 in their season opener on January 28
* Their second win was against Thiel on the road, 3-0
* The Golden Tornadoes recently fell to Hiram 3-2 on Saturday, February 27
* Geneva was in first place in the regular standings last season in the AMCC with an 18-6 overall record and 5-0 mark in the conference
* The Golden Tornadoes ended the 2020 season on a nine-match winning streak
* Head Coach Curt Conser enters his third season with an overall record of 38-15
* Senior outside hitter Dan Townsend returns after being named a Second Team All-AMCC performer the last two seasons
* Townsend led the AMCC in digs with 249 and was second in digs per set (2.77)
