Mt. Union Spoils Softball Home Opener
The Mt. Union softball team spoiled the Penn State Behrend Lions home opener with an 8-0 game-one decision and a 11-7 game-two win in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday.

ERIE, Pa. – The Mt. Union softball team spoiled the Penn State Behrend Lions home opener with an 8-0 game-one decision and a 11-7 game-two win in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday.
Game One: Mt. Union 8, Penn State Behrend 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (4-7), Mt. Union (9-4)
Key Moments:
* Pitcher Kendyll Cahill threw a three-hit shutout while also going 3-for-4 with three doubles in the win
* Cahill fanned at least one batter in each inning except the fourth
* After four scoreless innings, the Purple Raiders got on the board with a sacrifice fly by Faith Reicosky
* Sydney Mercer doubled to center field and had a key stolen base to get on third before scoring on the sac fly
* Mt. Union broke open the game in the top of the sixth with seven runs on six hits
* The Purple Raiders used three doubles and a triple to score the first six runs with just one out showing
* Behrend got a double from Hannah Smith (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) in the fifth while Alexia Brown (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) went 2-for-2
* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) started in the circle and drops to 1-5 on the season

Noteworthy:
* Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) smacked a triple to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning to record her 100th career hit
Key Moments:
* Behrend erased a 6-2 deficit with five unanswered runs in the fifth inning to take the lead at 7-6
* The Lions incurred two quick outs but proceeded to get two triples and two doubles to turn the game around
* Petitte ripped a triple to get the offense going and also getting her 100th career hit
* Smith hit the two-run triple to tie the game at 6-all, before Isabel Pozar (Flagstaff, AZ/Coconino) doubled to send in Smith for the go-ahead run
* Mt. Union responded with five runs in the top of the seventh with two outs to make it 11-7
* Cahill came in relief for the final 2.1 innings and got her second win of the day
* Julia Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) pitched 6.2 innings, walking eight and giving up eight earned runs to drop to 2-2 this season
* Offensively, Jones went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Pozar finished with a pair of RBIs

* The Lions will head to Marietta, Ohio to compete in the BSN Sports Softball Classic. Behrend will face Marietta and Hiram on Saturday and Sunday.
