Westminster Defeats Women's Swimming and Diving

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) won two individual events and swam on a winning relay team, but the Penn State Behrend women's swimming team fell to Westminster 193-89 in the first dual meet of the season on Saturday.

Horn won the 50 and 100 freestyle events, clocking in with a time of 25.64 and 57.65, respectively. She also joined Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois), Allison McClure (Loveland, OH/Milford), and Claire Mallick (Pittsburgh, PA/Woodland Hills) for the 200 free relay that placed first with a time of 1:47.46.

Freshman Abigail Witmer (Herndon, PA/Herndon) was the other winner on the day for the Lions. She posted the fastest time in the 100 backstroke (1:06.20) and then placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:25.18).

Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) placed in the top three for Behrend in three events. She was second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:21.19 and then was third in both the 200 freestyle (2:03.98) and 100 butterfly (1:05.22).

In the 500 and 1000 freestyle, Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) was the top finisher for the Lions. She was second in the 1000 free (11:54.23) and third in the 500 free (5:50.73).

Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) tallied a time of 1:19.31 for third in the 100 breaststroke and Wyckoff finished behind Horn in the 100 freestyle for third (59.02).

Behrend returns to action on Nov. 5 for the home opener against Chatham. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
