Chatham Edges Women's Swimming and Diving in Home Opener

ERIE, Pa. – The Chatham women's swimming and diving team edged Penn State Behrend 133-127 in non-conference dual-meet action in the home opener for the Lions on Saturday afternoon.

Behrend won six events and placed second in seven others, led by four-time winner Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village). Horn won the 50 and 100 freestyle, and then swam on the first-place 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) joined Horn on those relays, while touching first in the 200 freestyle.

Horn posted a winning time of 25.37 in the 50 free, before recording the fastest time in the 100 free (56.07).

Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) and Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) helped Horn and Lowery register a time of 1:59.33 to win the 200 medley relay. Claire Mallick (Pittsburgh, PA/Woodland Hills), Wyckoff, Horn and Lowery made up the foursome that won the 200 free relay in 1:44.87.

Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) was a second-place finisher in three events. She was runner up in the 100 butterfly (1:04.84), 200 butterfly (2:36.73) and 200 breaststroke (2:50.82).

Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) led the Lions in the 1000 free, 500 free and 200 IM, placing second in 11:58.43, 5:49.20 and 2:29.97, respectively.

Abigail Witmer (Herndon, PA/Herndon) was the last individual winner for Behrend. She won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.89. She also placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:23.50) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:06.78).

In addition to the relays, Wyckoff finished third in the 200 freestyle (2:08.31) and 100 freestyle (58.88).

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Baldwin and Wallace. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
