Women's Swimming and Diving Defeats Penn State Altoona

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team won nine events, placing first and second in six, to defeat Penn State Altoona 120-53 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) had three first-place finishes on the day, starting with the 200 medley relay. She joined Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell), Abigail Witmer (Herndon, PA/Herndon) and Claire Mallick (Pittsburgh, PA/Woodland Hills) for a combined time of 2:04.64 in the opening relay.

Owens then won the 100 and 200 breaststroke later in the meet. She had a time of 1:17.43 in the 100 and touched in 2:47.55 in the 200.

Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) and Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) were double winners for the Lions. Lowery led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 freestyle. She had a winning time of 2:06.74, followed by Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) in second (2:13.11) and Lacey Grinnen (Warren, PA/Warren) in third (2:17.58).

Lowery also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.77.

Horn, Witmer and Schneider made up the top three in the 100 backstroke. Horn led in 1:04.14 and Witmer was two seconds behind in 1:06.98 and Schneider was third (1:10.09). In the 100 freestyle, Horn had a winning time of 56.93, while Wyckoff was second in 1:00.56.

Wyckoff then won the 50 free (26.54) and Mallick was second in 28.00. The final 1-2 combo was in the 200 backstroke. Witmer had the top time (2:24.35) and Schneider was runner up in 2:31.48.

Behrend returns to action on Friday, December 1 for the three-day Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational. The meet begins at 4 p.m.
