Horn Sets School Record in 50 Free at Fredonia Blue Devil Invite

FREDONIA, NY – Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) set a new school record in the 50 free to lead the Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team on the first day of the Blue Devil Invite hosted by Fredonia State on Friday.

Horn tallied a time of 24.79 in the preliminaries and then set the new program record with a time of 24.70 for third overall to replace Emma Daghir's time of 24.78 set two seasons ago. Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) led the way for the Lions in the 200 IM. She registered a prelim time of 2:17.47 and then posted a time of 2:16.82 in the finals for fifth place out of 23 competitors.

Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) had the top time for Behrend in the 1650 freestyle, placing 11th in 19:15.78.

In the final event of the night, the team of Watterson, Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell), Lacey Grinnen (Warren, PA/Warren) and Claire Mallick (Pittsburgh, PA/Woodland Hills) tallied a time of 8:46.44 in the 800 free relay for 10th place.

The Lions are in fifth place out of nine teams, earning 66 points through four events. John Carroll leads with 235.5 and Oberlin is second (116). Allegheny is third, while SUNY Brockport is fourth (88.5).

Behrend returns to action tomorrow for day two of the Blue Devil Invite. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m.
