Women's Swimming and Diving Finish Day Two at Blue Devil Invite

FREDONIA, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team is in seventh place out of nine teams with a team score of 181 after day two of the Blue Devil Invite hosted by Fredonia State on Saturday.

John Carroll has a commanding lead in the three–day meet (558.5), followed by Allegheny in second with 376 and Oberlin in third place with a team score of 321.

The Lions had three swimmers in the Top 10 for the 100 freestyle. Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) paced the pack with an eighth-place finish with a time of 55.11. Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) was ninth (55.74) and Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) in 10th (56.31).

The 200 free relay finished fifth thanks to Lowery, Horn, Abigail Witmer (Herndon, PA/Herndon) and Wyckoff with a time of 1:42.64. The same four made up the 200 medley relay and tallied the same finish of fifth place (1:56.24).

In addition to the relay, Witmer had the best time for Behrend in the 200 backstroke. She clocked in at 2:18.04 for seventh place. Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) also competed in the same event, finishing 15th (2:28.52).

In the 500 free, Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) advanced to the "B" finals and finished 15th with a time of 5:39.88

Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) led the Lions in the 100 breaststroke, placing 15th with a time of 1:16.61.

The Lions return to action tomorrow for the final day of the Blue Devil Invite. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m.
