Washington & Jefferson Tops Women's Swimming and Diving

ERIE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's swimming and diving team defeated Penn State Behrend 168-111 in non-conference action on Saturday.

Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) led the Lions with three first-place finishes on the day. Individually, she won the 100 breaststroke (1:16.71), the 200 breaststroke (2:48.09) and the 200 IM (2:31.27). Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) tallied two victories, winning the 1000 free in 11:56.34 before touching first in the 500 free (5:49.47).

Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) was a member of two second-place relay teams while winning the 50 freestyle (25.69) and then earning second in the 100 freestyle (57.36).

Horn, Abigail Witmer (Herndon, PA/Herndon), Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) and Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) posted a time of 1:59.69 in the 200 medley relay. Horn, Lowery, Wyckoff and Claire Mallick (Pittsburgh, PA/Woodland Hills) managed a time of 3:59.12 for second in the 400 free relay.

Lacey Grinnen (Warren, PA/Warren) followed Watterson in the 1000 and 500 freestyle. She was runner up in 12:25.17 and 6:00.09, respectively.

In addition to the relays, Lowery recorded two individual second-place finishes. She led Behrend in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.79 and then in the 200 freestyle (2:07.08). Wyckoff was on her heels in the 200 free with a third-place time of 2:08.41.

In the backstroke events, Witmer came in second place in the 100 (1:08.48) and the 200 (2:26.72).

The Lions return to action on Saturday at Malone. Meet time is 4 p.m.
