Lions Sit In Fifth After First Day of Indoor Championships; Duncan Delivers AARTFC 60m Time
The Penn State Behrend women’s indoor track & field team is currently in fifth out of nine teams with 16 team points after the first day of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships.
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Penn State Behrend women's indoor track & field team is currently in fifth out of nine teams with 16 team points after the first day of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Key Moments:
* Senior Madison Kappeler (Cecil, PA/Canon-McMillan) started the championships off with third-place finish in the pole vault
* Kappeler tied her season best of 10-11 ¾ to earn a bronze medal. She was followed by Noelani Takei (Fremont, CA/Irvington) in fifth place (10-0)
* Jaade Duncan (Turner Falls, MA/Turner Falls) scored a pair of finals qualifying times on Friday
* Duncan ran a personal best and regional qualifying time of 8.02 in the 60m prelims and then went on to run a career best 27.03 in the 200m prelims
* Ivy Laffan (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) registered a season best in the 400m of 1:02.89 for 10th and placed 17th in the 200m (28.23)
* Distance runners Lindsey Hartle (Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) and Bethany Litwiler (Reynolds, PA/Reynolds) found their way to the podium in the 5000m with season-best marks of 19:26.41 and 19:27.42 for sixth and seventh place. Freshman Sam Abate (North East, PA/North East) crossed the finish line in 13th place behind Hartle and Litwiler with a time of 20:35.10
* Ella McGowan (Erie, PA/Waterford) (400m/1:05:85) and Rachel Skoczlas (60m/8.36) finished with personal-record times for 15th and 17th in their respective events
* In the triple jump, Grace Jones (Union City, PA/Union City) delivered a 12th-place distance of 31-4
* The distance medley relay team of Baylee Dernar (Wattsburg, PA/Seneca), Carly Amon (Stoneboro, PA/Lakeview), Abby Major (Erie, PA/McDowell), and Alivia Hetrick (Waterford, PA/Waterford) tallied a time of 14:11.50 for eighth-place to complete the first day
