2010-11 Top Stories

Greetings from beautiful Costa Rica! Tonight is our last night here and it is bittersweet. We are looking forward to seeing friends and family again soon but sad to be leaving such a wonderful place.
Sunday, May 29 – Hola! As you can see, our Spanish is improving! Saturday was an early start, as we boarded our bus and set off for an adventure on the Sarapiqui River. Our team went white water rafting for our morning/early afternoon activity
We started the day off early, packing our things for the next destination, the San Carlos area and the Arenal Volcano, and soon our 3-hour drive began. The drive was scenic, including beautiful landscapes and their unique fields for farming but the road was very rocky and winding.

Thursday, May 26 -- Today we started off by heading to a day care center for underprivileged children, many of whom come from single parent homes. Since we visited early in the morning we spent time with the younger children who were very affectionate and excited to see us, especially when they saw we had candy for them!

Wednesday, May 25 was our first full day in Costa Rica. Today we had breakfast and an orientation meeting about Costa Rica and our trip itinerary. We then traveled to a local sports club to practice before our match this evening. We worked hard and sweated a lot in a humid gym, afterward many enjoyed relaxing at the pool in the afternoon hours.

Just a quick note to let you know that we landed safely in Costa Rica and are now all checked in to our hotel (Hotel Irazu/Best Western). The property looks very nice at first glance although we haven't had much time to explore it.

The Behrend women’s volleyball team will take its talents to Costa Rica for a nine-day, eight-night international tour, departing on Tuesday, May 24 and returning back to the states on Wednesday, June 1.
