ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's cross country team open the 2021 season on Wednesday, September 1 at the Houghton Invitational in Houghton, NY. The race begins at 6 p.m.

* Last spring, the Lions won the AMCC Invitational held at La Roche
* The invitational was in lieu of a championship due to low participation
* Behrend placed first with a team score of 23 points and had every runner finish in the Top 15 to earn All-Conference honors
* The Lions had the top three spots in the race including returning runners in Jessie Johnson (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) and Izzy Spires (Wattsburg, PA/Seneca)
* Johnson came in second (25:36.64) and Spires was close behind in third (25:39.41)
* In addition to Johnson and Spires, All-Conference runners from last season returning are Emily Ferrans (Bradfordwoods, PA/North Allegheny), Ally O'Connor (Angola, NY/Lake Shore Central) and Kira Nicholson (Scottdale, PA/Southmoreland)
* Head Coach Greg Cooper enters his 13th season at the helm of the cross country programs
