The Penn State Behrend men's golf team captured the 2009 AMCC Championship on Monday, October 5 at Tom's Run Golf Resort in Blairsville, Pennsylvania by shooting a score of 617 over two days of action.  The blue and white took home the title on a tiebreaker as Penn State Altoona also finished the championship with a team total of 617.  The nine-team event was played October 4 and 5 to decide the conference champion.

On Sunday, Behrend charged out to a lead with a team score of 299, led by Pat Petraglia (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) who fired a tournament best round of 70.  Behrend led Penn State Altoona 299-303 after day one.  Altoona shot a 314 on Saturday, but Behrend answered with a 318 to forge a team tie at 617.  The blue and white took the trophy based on the tiebreaker criteria of best score by the #5 golfer on both days of the tournament.

Head Coach James Bowen said, "This was a tough battle in which my team played hard.  It came down to the wire, every score counted, and it was great to earn the title."

Petraglia stepped up big for the Behrend Lions with a two-day total of 150, while teammate Kevin Koerbel (Gibsonia/Deer Lakes) fired a two-day score of 151 and Joe Nelson (Warren/Warren) posted a 155.

This is the second AMCC title for the Behrend Lions men's golf team, as the blue and white also won the championship in 2004.  Penn State Behrend will next compete on October 12 at the Pitt-Greensburg Invitational.
