Lions Fall to St. Scholastica, 3-1

FORT PIERCE, Fl. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team dropped their opening contest of the season 3-1 to St. Scholastica Sunday afternoon in Fort Pierce, Florida. Daniel Wood threw a complete game for the Saints allowing just one earned run.

St. Scholastica (1-0) tacked on two runs in the top of the fourth off a Steven Neutzling single with two outs to score the game's first runs. St. Scholastica added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-0 lead.

Daniel Wood worked out of several jams for St. Scholastica including a bases-loaded two-out scenario in the bottom of the second inning. The Lions (0-1) scored a run in the ninth inning when Alex Margraf (Erie, PA/McDowell) was knocked in off a Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) single up the middle.

John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) began his 2015 campaign going 2-for-4 at the plate including two doubles. Ryan Finnegan (Fombell, PA/Riverside) also smacked two hits along with Jordan Weinzierl (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) and Justin Dilla (South Park, PA/South Park) chipping in one hit apiece.

Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) started on the mound and went five innings allowing six hits and one earned run. Freshman Alex Hajduk (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) threw three scoreless innings with three strikeouts in his first career appearance.

The Florida trip continues tomorrow when Behrend takes on Northwestern at 3:00 p.m.
