ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team earned their first shutout victory of the season with a 4-0 win over Pitt-Bradford Thursday afternoon.

The Lions (15-6, 6-3 AMCC) plated three runs in the fourth inning to break a 0-0 tie and take the early lead. Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) brought in the first run of the game with sacrifice bunt that scored Anthony Faulk (Blairsville, PA/Blairsville). Alex Margraf (Erie, PA/McDowell) followed with an RBI single and Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) walked in a run later in the inning.

Jack Herzing (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) threw four shutout innings with five strikeouts before his start was cut short by a rain delay. He picked up his conference-leading fifth win of the year.

Faulk led off the fifth inning with a bunt single and later came around to score on a groundout by Bergstrom to make the score 4-0.

After an hour-long rain delay, Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) came on in relief of Herzing throwing three shutout innings. Rohrer notched his first save of the season.

Margraf finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored while Faulk went 1-for-1 with two runs scored.

Game two was postponed due to inclement weather and will be made up on a date to be named later.

The Lions will travel to Thiel tomorrow for a non-conference match-up set to start at 4 p.m.
