Baseball Rolls Past Allegheny, 12-4

MEADVILLE, Pa. - Alex Margraf (Erie, PA/McDowell) went 4-for-6 with two RBI's and three runs scored to lead the Penn State Behrend baseball team past Allegheny Tuesday afternoon by a score of 12-4. The Lions (18-8) snapped Allegheny's (17-12) 10-game winning streak.

Margraf's four hits were a season-high along with his three runs scored. His double in the top of the ninth inning drove in two runs to cap off a 12-run performance for the Lions offense.

Behrend pushed across one run in the first inning on a Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) RBI single through the right side to open up the scoring.

The Lions would add two more runs in the third on a Nathan Junk (Cabot, PA/Knoch) two-RBI single and another run in the fourth on a Tommy Kocur (Erie, PA/McDowell) RBI single to center field.

Brandon Smail (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) drew the start on the hill and provided the Lions with 4.2 innings pitched, allowing just one run and two hits. He punched out seven and walked only one. He earned his first career win for the strong effort.

With a 4-1 lead, Behrend broke the game open with a four-spot in the sixth inning. John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) singled with one out to bring in Kocur and Bohman added a sacrifice fly with one out. Matt Wolczko (Apollo, PA/Kiski) walked with the bases loaded and two outs to bring in a run and Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) was hit by pitch to bring in the fourth run of the inning.

Bohman and Junk both finished with two RBI's apiece and Hlavinka scored three times to boost the offense.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow with two conference games on the schedule. In sole possession of second place in the AMCC, the Lions will look to keep their six-game conference winning streak alive when they travel to Medaille for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
