Patterson, Kost Break Records in Win Over Chatham

ERIE, Pa. – Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) broke a team and pool record, respectively, to lead Penn State Behrend past Chatham 120-39 in non-conference men's swimming and diving action on Saturday.

Patterson set a new team record in the 1000 free, touching in first with a time of 10:09.50. He was nearly two seconds faster than Brendan Lacey, who held set the record back in 2011. Kost won the 400 IM in 4:20.06 to break his own pool record by .01 seconds.

The Lions made a statement to start the meet by placing first, second and third in the 200 medley relay. The team of Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois), Scott Romanko (Plum, PA/Plum), Manny Meinen (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) and Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) led the three groups with a time of 1:47.47.

Nathan Burak (Hopewell, PA/Hopewell), Nikos Koufos (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) and Nathan Wagner  (Ypsilanti, MI/Lincoln) were all winners in a freestyle event. Burak was first in the 200 free (1:57.23), Koufos paced everyone in the 100 free (54.27) and Wagner touch the wall in 5:41.53 for the win.

Dillon Scheidemantle (Mars, PA/Pine-Richland) led Behrend in the 100 breaststroke. He took first with a time of 1:12.02. In the 200 backstroke, Meinen placed second in 2:12.52.

Diver Blake Bachner (Freeport, PA/Kiski Area) won both the one-meter and three-meter competitions. He earned a score of 207.65 in the one meter and then posted a winning score of 148.95 for his first performance on a three-meter board this season.

Wagner, Scheidemantle, Bachner and Burak were the foursome that won the 200 free relay to end the meet. The team won in a time of 1:37.16.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Baldwin Wallace. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
