Men's Swimming and Diving Claims 10th Straight AMCC Championship

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team won their 10th straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship with an impressive finals competition on Saturday evening hosted by Grove City.

The Lions took first in every event they participated to finish the three-day meet 372 points to keep building on the dynasty of championships. Behrend posted a 232-point advantage over second-place Pitt-Bradford (140). Cabrini took third (116) and Altoona was fourth (68).

Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) was named the highest-point winner for the AMCC meet with 27 points. This is in part to Roth setting three new records and was being named AMCC Champion in the 200 butterfly. He set the AMCC open, AMCC meet and program record with a time of 1:54.45. Roth also was runner-up overall among the PAC swimmers. Keith Powell (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) came in third in the conference and 11th overall with a time of 2:04.76.

Freshman Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) had the second-best performance of the night for Behrend. He was the AMCC champion in the 200 backstroke and third overall with a time of 1:54.73. Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) was third in the conference and eighth overall in 2:00.98.

In the 200 breaststroke, Blair Carson (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) led a 1, 2, 3 finish with a time of 2:12.97. He won the gold medal and was sixth overall, while Victor Nguyen (San Jose, CA/Evergreen Valley) was second and eighth overall in 2:16.43. Behrend swept the top three thanks to Ryan Elsey (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) in third and ninth overall (2:16.73).

Nick Snyder (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) won his first AMCC title in the 100 freestyle. He was sixth overall with a time of 48.30, followed by Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) in second in the conference and 15th in 49.88.

The men capped a great three days with first place and fourth overall in the 400 free relay. Snyder, Kost, Elder and Roth were the four that made up the winning relay with a time of 3:12.91.
