Men's Swimming and Diving Finishes Day One of Blue Devil Invite

FREDONIA, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team is in fourth place out of nine teams after the first day of the Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational held on Friday night.

The Lions have compiled a score of 88 on day one, falling behind Wheeling Jesuit in first (157), Allegheny in second (154.5) and John Carroll in third (103).

Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) was the leader for Behrend in the 200 IM, placing third with a time of 1:56.64 after shaving more than two seconds off his preliminary time. Ryan Elsey (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) made it to the "A" final and took seventh in the top eight swimmers with a time of 2:03.24.

Matt Myers (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) were neck-and-neck in the 50 free. Competing in the "B" final, Myers placed 13th (22.84) and Elder was 14th in 22.95.

Anthony Wetzel (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) was the lone swimmer competing in the 1650 free, taking 18th place in 20:13.28.

Finishing day one of the Blue Devil Invite, the team of Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin), Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) and Kost put together a time of 7:10.05 in the 800 freestyle relay for second place overall out of 14 relay teams.

The Lions returns to action tomorrow for the second day of the invite. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m.
