Men's Swimming Handles Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. – Victor Nguyen (San Jose, CA/Evergreen Valley) won two individual events and one relay to lead Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team past Pitt-Bradford 151-101 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Friday night.

Nguyen was instrumental in the opening 200 medley relay win by the Lions to start the meet. He joined Jeremy Brosius (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham), Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) and Nick Snyder (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) for a time of 1:41.58. The senior then won the 100 breastroke (1:02.26) and the 200 breaststroke (2:19.05) to help Behrend cruise to the victory.

In the 200 freestyle, Snyder and Kyle Frerichs (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) were first and second, respectively. Snyder won in 1:52.67 and Frerichs followed in 1:56.01. The Lions also went 1-2 in the 200 butterfly. Roth led in 2:04.45 and Keith Powell was second in 2:08.57.

Frerichs was victorious in the 100 freestyle (52.13), edging teammate Dillon Scheidemantle (Mars, PA/Pine-Richland), the winner of the 50 free. In the 100, Scheidemantle touched in 54.35 and won the 50 in 24.35.

Behrend was edged in the 100 backstroke by less than a second. Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) was runner-up with a time of 56.00. Patterson made up for it by winning the 500 freestyle later on in 5:02.06.

Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) tallied a time of 2:02.43 in the 200 backstroke for the victory and also placed second in the 1000 free (10:57.77).

The last event Behrend earned points for was in the 100 butterfly led by second-place Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) in 1:00.81 and third-place Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) in 1:00.92.

The Lions return to action tomorrow at Allegheny with St. Vincent. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
