Men's Tennis Downs Pitt-Bradford in AMCC Action

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team won their first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conerence (AMCC) match of the season with a 7-2 decision over Pitt-Bradford on Sunday at Westwood Racquet Club.

The Lions (3-3, 1-0 AMCC) took a 3-0 lead after the doubles matches, and despite falling in the No. 1 and 2 singles Behrend won the next four singles matches for the victory.

Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva), Brett Palmer (North East, PA/North East), Jeremy Burnheiner (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) and Michael Funera (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) were double winners on the day.

Palmer and Funera only surrendered one point at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Palmer defeated Sam Buck 6-1, 6-0 while Funera posted the same score over Matt Dennis. These two teamed up for an 8-1 victory No. 3 doubles earlier in the match.

At No. 4 singles, McFarland defeated John Parsell 6-1, 6-1 and Burnheimer posted a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Alex Jadlowiec at the No. 5 spot. The duo managed an 8-2 win together at No. 1 doubles to start.

Chris Heintz (Fairview, PA/Fairview) and Nick Kapty (Monogahela, PA/Ringgold) were the final pair to record a win on the day. The twosome had an 8-5 victory over Parsell and Buck.

Behrend returns to action on Friday, February 26 at D'Youville. Match begins at 7:30 p.m.
