Apgar, McFarland Headline All-AMCC Men's Tennis Team

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend men's tennis sophomore Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) was named the 2016 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Player of the Year, while freshman Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) earned Newcomer of the Year to highlight the All-Conference Team honors.

Apgar and McFarland were also chosen to the All-AMCC first team, for No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively. McFarland also earned second-team accolades with his doubles partner Jeremy Burnheimer (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) at the No. 2 spot. The duo of Nick Kapty (Monongahela, PA/Ringgold) and Michael Funera (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) were a second-team selection at No. 3 doubles.

Apgar went undefeated in conference play at No. 1 singles with a 5-0 record to earn Player of the Year honors. He finished on a five-match winning streak to post an 11-4 overall mark in singles play.

McFarland tallied the best record this season for the Lions, going 13-1 overall and 6-0 in AMCC action for the Newcomer of the Year award. He primarily played No. 3 singles (8-1), but also posted a 2-0 record at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. The freshman and Burnheimer were 4-1 in doubles competition in the conference, only falling to AMCC Champions Franciscan during the regular season.

Kapty and Funera were undefeated in conference play at No. 3 doubles, registering a 3-0 record. Overall, the pair tallied a 4-2 record together.

As a team, the Lions advanced to the AMCC championship but fell to first-seed Franciscan. Behrend ended with an 11-9 overall record.
