Men's Tennis Falls Twice

HILTON HEAD, SC – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team dropped their final two matches on spring break in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on Friday. The Lions fell 9-0 to Spring Arbor and 5-4 to Marietta.

Marietta held a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches on Friday night. Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) blanked Shane Spencer and Andrew Stone and No. 1 doubles.

Brett Palmer (North East, PA/North East) and Michael Funera (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) took four sets from their opponents at No. 3 doubles.

Apgar won twice on the day, defeating Alex Schaeffer at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2. McFarland picked up a second victory at No. 3 singles. He posted a 6-0, 6-1 win against Muhammad Kingson.

Palmer earned the final singles decision at the No. 6 spot. He easily defeated Brendan Atkinson 6-1, 6-0.

Against Spring Arbor, Apgar fell in a close No. 1 singles match by a 7-6, 7-6 score.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday, March 19 against Mt. Aloysius. Match begins at 4 p.m.
