Tingley Reaches 100 Career K's; Lions Shut Out John Carroll

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team shut out non-conference John Carroll 3-0 and 4-0 on Thursday afternoon at Mercyhurst University.

Noteworthy:

* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) registered eight strikeouts to reach 100 career K's in game one
* Behrend scored five of their seven combined runs in the third innings
* The Lions played as the visitors to stick to the original schedule of being on the road at JCU

Game One: Penn State Behrend 3, John Carroll 0

Key Moments: 

* Tingley recorded her second shutout of the season and sixth win by just allowing three hits over the seven innings
* Offensively, the Lions tallied three runs on 12 hits and stranded eight runners
* Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) ripped her third triple of the season to start the top of the third inning
* Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) drove in McNany with a bunt down first-base line for the RBI
* On the second out, Petitte made it 2-0 with a fielder's choice at-bat for Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier)
* Behrend added an insurance run in the sixth, starting with an Alexia Brown (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) double
* Brown came home on a Brittany Shaw (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) single for the final margin
* McNany, Brown and Shaw finished with a pair of hits each

Key Moments: 

* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) and Julia Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) combined for a no-hitter in game two
* Lindberg got the win in the start, fanning eight over five innings while J. Jones got her first save of her career pitching the final two innings
* Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) and McNany each tallied two doubles apiece
* McNany had a double that hit off the fence and Jones had a ball bounce over the turf for a ground-rule double
* Kayla Salvini (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) was the third player with two hits, while Lexi Edgett (Frisco, TX/Lone Star) drove in a pair of runs
* Behrend used five hits to score three runs in the third inning
* Back-to-back doubles from Jones and McNany got the Lions on the board
* Edgett sent home McNany with a single and then scored on a Salvini single down right-field line
* Edgett got her second RBI in the seventh inning to send home M. Jones from second, who got on with her second double for the 4-0 lead
