Behrend Softball Sweep Altoona in AMCC Game of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team picked up a pair of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) wins against Penn State Altoona in the AMCC Game of the Week. Behrend posted a 5-2 game-one victory and a 13-5 game-two defeat in five innings.

Game One: Penn State Behrend 5, Penn State Altoona 2
Records: Penn State Behrend (21-8, 9-0 AMCC), Penn State Altoona (13-13, 6-5 AMCC)

Key Moments: 

* Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Grove City) went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, while Britney Shaw (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) also added a pair of hits
* Behrend and Altoona went three up and three down in the first two innings
* The Behrend Lions came alive in the third with five hits and three runs to take the lead and stay out front
* Williams led off with a triple to right center, a spot her bat became familiar with in the doubleheader
* A single by Alexia Brown (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) got Williams home from third
* Brown made it 2-0 on a sacrifice fly by Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) and Shaw scored on a Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) single down the left-field line for a 3-0 lead
* Behrend added another run in the fifth with a M. Jones triple and a run off a McNancy sacrifice fly
* In the sixth, Williams got her first of four RBIs on the day with a double to right center to score Julia Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) for the final 5-2 margin
* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) threw a complete game for win number 12 this season, striking out six and allowing two runs on six hits

Game Two:
 Penn State Behrend 13, Penn State Altoona 5 (5)
Records: Penn State Behrend (22-8, 10-0 AMCC), Penn State Altoona (13-14, 6-6 AMCC)

 Key Moments: 

* Behrend registered a season-high 15 hits to produce 13 runs and end game two in five innings
* McNany and Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) each tallied a home run, while four others smacked doubles for 11 RBIs
* Altoona got on the board first with a pair of runs in the first on four hits
* The Behrend Lions had two five-run innings, in the first and the third
* With two outs in the first, Petitte homered to center field and Williams cleared the loaded bases with a double for a 4-2 lead
* Athena Iverson (Pittsburgh, PA/The Ellis School) knocked in Williams with the final hit of the inning to make it 5-2
* Altoona tied it at 5-all with three runs in the second, but the Lions responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame with McNany's two-run homer
* Behrend led off the third inning with four straight hits, including a double from Shaw to score Williams and Kayla Salvini (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry)
* McNany drove in two with a single and Shaw scored on a wild pitch
* McNany came home on the second out leaving the Lions one run shy of the eight-run rule
* Petitte halted the game in five innings with a two-out double down left-field line to score Shaw
* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) collected the win in the circle with a pair of strikeouts
