Softball Claims AMCC Regular-Season Championship; Lions Sweep Bobcats

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Regular-Season Champions after defeating Pitt-Greensburg 4-2 and 8-0 (5) on Sunday afternoon.

Game One: Penn State Behrend 4, Pitt-Greensburg 2
Records: Penn State Behrend (27-8, 15-0 AMCC), Pitt-Greensburg (13-14, 7-6 AMCC)

Noteworthy:

* The Lions claimed the No. 1 seed for the AMCC playoffs
* Behrend will host the AMCC Tournament on May 9-11

Key Moments: 

* Each team recorded four hits apiece with the Bobcats taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth
* Behrend tallied two hits in a four-run sixth inning to go ahead 4-1 and hold on for the win
* In the sixth, Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) walked and scored on an error with Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) at bat
* Kayla Salvini (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) reached out a fielders choice but to score Petitte
* Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) singled to right field to move Salvini to third, before Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Grove City) knocked her in with a double
* Jones scored the final run on a sacrifice fly by Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) to take a three-run lead
* Pitt-Greensburg threatened in the seventh and was only able to get another run to make it 4-2
* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) completed the game, allowing one earned run and striking out six for her 15th win

Game Two:
 Penn State Behrend 8, Pitt-Greensburg 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (28-8, 16-0 AMCC), Pitt-Greensburg (13-15, 7-7 AMCC)

 Key Moments: 

* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) threw a one-hit shutout, fanning seven for her 13th win and 11th shutout of the season
* Williams went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, a triple, RBI and a walk
* Curcio recorded a pair of RBIs while scoring a run
* Behrend managed six hits and scattered eight runs over five innings for the sweep
* The Lions registered four runs in the second for the quick advantage
* Athena Iverson (Pittsburgh, PA/The Ellis School) doubled to score Williams
* Curcio and Iverson scored after M. Jones flied out to center for a 4-0 lead
* Behrend added two more runs in the third off a Williams triple to score Salvini and then two more in the fifth
