La Roche Stops Women's Basketball

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Sabrina McLin was one of four La Roche women's basketball players in double figures, scoring a game-high 24 points for a 71-51 victory over Penn State Behrend in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday night.

The Redhawks (18-4, 15-0 AMCC) outscored the Lions (9-13, 8-7 AMCC) by 12 points in the first half and eight in the second to an unblemished record in conference play. TiChina Mitchell added 13 points, while Danasha Harris tallied 12 points and nine rebounds.

Ali Goetz (Mars, PA/Mars) shot 50 percent from the floor (5-for-10) for a team-best 12 points and five rebounds.

McLin scored 10 of La Roche's final 12 points of the first quarter to take a 17-8 lead heading into the second period. Beginning with a layup with 4:50 left, McLin got another layup and back-to-back three pointers for the Redhawks first double-digit lead. La Roche held Behrend to just three field goals and two free throws in the first period.

The Lions went 4-for-4 from the floor to open the second quarter and forced three straight missed opportunities by La Roche to get within one at 17-16 in the first two minutes.

Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) helped Behrend regain the lead with a trey at the 6:08 mark, but that would be the final field goal for the Lions while the Redhawks closed out the quarter on a 14-0 run thanks to nine points from McLin for a 31-19 advantage.

La Roche did not let up, forcing four consecutive turnovers that led to buckets and a 46-22 lead in the first 4:10 of the third quarter. The 20-point lead carried over into the fourth quarter for the conference victory.

The Lions return to action on Saturday against Pitt-Bradford. Game time is 6 p.m.
