ERIE, Pa. – Freshman women's tennis player Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and senior women's cross country runner Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) were named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week, announced on Monday.
Laffey posted two doubles wins and one singles victory playing at the #1 spot to lead the women's tennis team to its 12th AMCC Championship. In the title match, the freshman won 6-1, 6-0 in singles and 8-3 in doubles with Chelsea Czerwinski. Laffey never lost a single conference singles match or doubles match this season.
Bertges ran a time of 23:11.1 at the Inter-Regional Rumble at Oberlin to earn top honors out of 155 runners, for her second first-place finish this season. The senior's efforts helped the women's cross country team earn a second overall in a field of 16 teams.
