Lions Head to Buffalo in Search of AMCC Championship

ERIE, Pa. – Twice was fine, but three would be divine.

That is the mindset of the Penn State Behrend men's cross country team as they seek their third consecutive and seventh overall AMCC Championship.

The Lions come in to the title meet with loads of momentum; earning four Top Four finishes thus far in 2013.

Behrend has been led by seniors Denis Lydon (Plum, PA/ Plum) , Brian Eller (Erie, PA/McDowell), Nicholas Marzka (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf), Andres Morales (Alajuela, Costa Rica / ICS), and Michael Smolinski (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny).

The Lions also won three consecutive AMCC titles from 2007-2009.

The Penn State Behrend women's cross country team can also make history on Saturday by claiming their fifth AMCC Championship in program history. Last season, the Lions' title ended a run of four consecutive championships by Franciscan University.

To go along with one second-place place team finish, Behrend has three third-place place finishes in 2013.

Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) has won two races during the 2013 season while Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren) has carded three Top-10 times.

Bertges finished second overall at last season's AMCC Championship meet with a time of 23:53.

D'Youville College will host the November 2 event, which will take place at Delaware Park in Buffalo, NY. The women's race will kick off at 11 a.m, while the men will run at noon.
