ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend pitcher Jack Herzing (St. Mary's, PA/Elk County Catholic) was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) North Division III Pitcher of the Week and made the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, announced on Tuesday.
After being named Allegheny Mountain College Conference (AMCC) Pitcher of the Week, Herzing tabbed ECAC and D3baseball.com honors after striking out 31 batters in 14 innings of work, helping him set a Penn State Behrend's new school record for most career strikeouts with 257 K's.
In the first game of the week, the lefty tossed a no-hitter where he fanned 15 of the 21 batters that stepped in the batter's box. Herzing personally retired on the side on three separate occasions.
Later in the week, the senior struck out a career-best 16 batters that aided in him breaking the school record for most career strikeouts. In the top of the fourth, he sat down his 11th batter of the game to give him his 257th career strikeouts for the most in program history. He threw a no-hitter threw five innings, but ended the game tossing a one-hitter in the seven innings of work.
